Borrowdale Fell Race

In August 1974, Miles Jessop of the Scafell Hotel in Rosthwaite organised the inaugural Borrowdale Fell Race, and the club provided check point marshalls, something they have continued to do every year since. For the record the checkpoints are at Bessy Boot, the ‘Four Walls’ shelter below Esk Hause, Scafell Pike, Great Gable, Honister Pass, and Dale Head.
Over the years, many club members have also taken part in the race, and this year it was Colin Jennings and Mark Walsh who donned their running shoes.

Right shows the marshalls meeting in High House the night before the race.
Below shows the view that the marshalls had on their way to Gable, with Ennerdale on the left and Buttermere and Crumlock on the right.
Bottom left shows Colin arriving at the top of Gable, and bottom right Mark at the same place.
